George Clooney gives ‘Buck Rogers’ reboot serious star power
I bet climate change. And nobody will take my bet that the antagonists will be changed from Chinese. Probably to Republicans. Or businessmen who brought on the apocalypse for their own power/profit.
Reeling in the years, here’s previous mention of Buck Rogers on MfBJN:
I share your non-optimism. Seeing what the talented Andrew Stanton and Michael Chabon helped the Mouse House do to John Carter I expect the worst out of the far more limited talents of Clooney. And I can’t take your bet either; the developing studio Legendary is subsidiary of the massive Chinese conglomerate the Wanda Group.
They’re digging pretty deep into the IP to retread these days.
What’s next? Doc Savage? I expect Queen Latifah will be available pretty soon to play the title role after the The Equalizer reboot fails.
Although, to be fair, I kind of like Queen Latifah, although I’m not sure what I might have seen her in. So no knock on her personally.
Also, I think we’ve got a Tarzan and maybe an Allie Quatermain reboot before we get to Doc Savage.
But all this has made me hungry to read some classic pulp fiction.
Further research indicates that I have not actually seen Queen Latifah in anything except the trailer for Taxi which is on one or more DVDs and/or videocassettes that I have seen.
That’s a pretty good Q-score right there.
