Ask, And You Shall Receive

In my book report for The Runaway Jury, I said:

But you know what it brings to mind? In the middle 1990s, we almost had a subgenre of legal fiction dedicated to lawsuits against tobacco companies, ainna? They’re still around, though, not bankrupted or banned as they hoped in the 1990s. Are there such legal thrillers about lawsuits against tech companies or social media companies?

I thought not, but also acknowledged I might not know what I was talking about.

Today, whilst streaming the Chiefs game, I saw the ad for CBS’s Cupertino, which is:

Cupertino is an upcoming American legal drama television series created by Robert King and Michelle King, who also produce. It is scheduled to premiere on CBS on October 8, 2026. The series stars Mike Colter as a Silicon Valley attorney who, after being denied his stock options and dismissed by his employer, forms a firm with another ousted lawyer (Rachel Keller) to represent people harmed by the technology industry.

Apparently it is my own ignorance. I expect I will be up to speed on 2020s fiction in 2050 or thereabouts.

Oh, and in an unrelated but similar fashion, I also saw a commercial for Sheriff Country which features the toothsome Morena Baccarin as a sheriff. Why did they name it Sheriff Country? To emphasize it takes place in the country? Oh, I guess not; it’s part of the Fire Country-verse. ::sigh:: But the sheriff says in the commercial that she will take care of her town her way or something like that. Jeez Louise, not to thump this particular thing again (as when complaining about the television program Sleepy Hollow in 2015, sheriff is a county position, not a city or town position. But if you live in a city, you might see both in the same area. But out here in Unincorporated County Country, we only see the sheriff. Damned kids and their ignaence.
