Seems Backwards

Wait a minute: A Pink Floyd tribute band, and Living Colour is the opening act?

What kind of parallel universe is this? Living Colour is the lesser of the acts in a major amptheatre?

Sweet Christmas. I have been wearing a beard (despite my pronouncement last summer that I was done with facial hair for a bit) for a couple of months, but I shaved it off just to see if I can somehow put this universe aright.

  1. I mean, I guess El Monstero has a following in the St. Louis area, but they’re a regional band at best. It’s like having, I dunno, Firehouse or Winger open for Springfield’s Machine Gun Symphony. Even now it seems the reversed order.

One wonders why Living Colour has not caught on with one of the aging rocksters stadium and arena tours like the Live to Rock Tour with Quiet Riot, Warrant, and Poison or the Def Leppard Stadium Tour with Def Leppard, Motley Crüe, Poison, and Joan Jett.

C’mon, man, Living Colour was at least as big as Joan Jett, ainna? I mean, at least as far as number of hits that get radio play today.

  2. Yeah, I would think that they could have found a niche like that. About 30 minutes of other stuff, nail the crap out of the big hit (looked at their discography and can’t find anything else that charted worth a darn) and go home knowing folks had a good time.

  3. I was going to tell you what a great fan I was, as I (thought I) bought a bunch of their albums a number of years ago (probably eight or nine, before Musical Balance posts), including their new album The Chair in the Doorway.

A search on Amazon shows I bought Vivid and The Chair in the Doorway in 2014, so I am misremembering how big of a fan I really am. And their newest album is from 2017.

But I wonder what the calculus for the band would be if offered both slots. Be the smallest band on a large ticket, or the smaller band on a smaller ticket?
