From the Durant

The Life of Greece, p426:

Mnesiochus defends Euripedes on the ground that his worst sayings about women are visibly and audibly true, and are mild compared with what women themselves know to be their faults.

Mnesiochus, the story goes, was dressed as a woman at the time and had infiltrated a meeting of women who were plotting revenge upon the playwright Euripedes.

So I guess the Western tradition about not being allowed to say that women and men are different goes way back.
