Through These Eyes #1

I chose my first column to give the readers an overview of my thought. Other columnists took on issues, but why talk about national affairs when I can talk about me? My fellow students agreed; the response to this piece was an unsigned editorial cartoon wherein a young man, coincidentally named Brian, can think of nothing to write in his journal and commits suicide. Clever and thought provoking, whoever it was.

Greetings and salutations, my fellow Marquette students. My name is Brian Noggle, and I am one of the four students selected by the Marquette Tribune Editorial Board as Crossfire Columnists this year. Which, of course, explains my presence here on the Editorial Page.

When the editor called me to have me write this introductory piece, I was not sure exactly what he wanted, and I failed to ask him that. So, in lieu of any pre-planned or plotted method of intorductions, lt me tell you what to expect from my columns this year.

First of all, my views are of a definite individualist slant. I am a strong advocate of the freedom of choice for all things. I do not approve of the government or society's attempts to muffle our freedoms. This is not to say that I am anti-government or anti-society; I just would like them to leave the individual alone. You'll see a lot of this in my columns, I'm sure.

There are also certain facets of human nature that irritate me greatly. Intolerance and closed-mindedness are the top two. I'm also sure that I'll become so incensed at something this year to write a heated attack on human nature involving one or more of these factors.

This year I want to write about the issues that deserve your attention and maybe with the eloquence to convert you to my point of view. The important thing is that you think about the issues before making your final decision.
