{"id":56,"date":"2003-06-27T02:14:00","date_gmt":"2003-06-27T02:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=56"},"modified":"2010-09-29T16:33:56","modified_gmt":"2010-09-29T21:33:56","slug":"56","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2003\/06\/27\/56\/","title":{"rendered":"New Streams of Revenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <i>New York Daily News<\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/06-04-2003\/news\/story\/89463p-81426c.html\" target=\"new\">rounds up<\/a> the ways that New York&#8217;s finest are enforcing all the laws on the books and citing everything to make up for the city&#8217;s revenue shortfall through fines.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite:  The driver who got into a car accident and then got a ticket for having a broken headlight <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/front\/story\/88069p-80119c.html\" target=\"new\">three days in a row<\/a>.  The law in question states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe law says it is illegal to operate, drive or park a vehicle not equipped with headlamps that are in good working conditions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You cannot drive it.  You cannot park it.  The only answer is to <i><b>destroy the car immediately<\/i><\/b> when a headlight goes out.  I would expect that sort of law in Detroit, not New York.<\/p>\n<p>Sharpen your outrage, friends.  I know this is confined to New York now, but rest assured your municipal officials are watching and learning.
