She&#8217;s a glamorous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/stltoday\/news\/stories.nsf\/sciencemedicine\/story\/A7AD8E3E4237017A8625767100115C69?OpenDocument\" target=\"_blank\"><i>celebrity<\/i><\/a>!<\/p>\n<ul><i>Apparently, no one told Sonia Sotomayor that Supreme Court justices are supposed to be circumspect, emerging from their marble palace mainly to dispense legal wisdom to law schools, judges\u2019 conferences and lawyers\u2019 meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Since becoming the first Hispanic justice, Sotomayor has mamboed with movie stars, exchanged smooches with musicians at the White House and thrown out the first pitch for her beloved New York Yankees. A famous jazz composer even wrote a song about her: \u201cWise Latina Woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In short, Sotomayor has become a celebrity \u2014 all without having made a single major decision at the nation\u2019s highest court.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not that other justices don\u2019t have their own particular glamour.<\/p>\n<p>Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia \u2014 both opera lovers \u2014 recently had roles in the opening performance of \u201cAriadne auf Naxos\u201d for the Washington National Opera. Other justices have done tours to promote their books.<\/p>\n<p>But that kind of fame rarely reaches the man on the street. <\/i><\/ul>\n<p>Remember, <i>man on the street<\/i> means <i>peasant<\/i>.  Do you feel touched, peasant?<\/p>\n<p>I especially like this bit:<\/p>\n<ul><i>In short, Sotomayor has become a celebrity \u2014 all without having made a single major decision at the nation\u2019s highest court.<\/i><\/ul>\n<p>Celebrity and powerful position without any actual accomplishment.
