There was the prospect of pickets under the marquee on Washington Avenue and of a work stoppage by all union labor at the convention center.<\/p>\n<p>This, it would seem, is not the image of St. Louis that anyone wants visiting conventioneers to take away when they come to the Gateway City.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know how that really degrades an image of a big concrete venue surrounded by mostly empty buildings, panhandlers, and little convenient eating or shopping.
