{"id":4020,"date":"2007-09-17T18:23:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-17T18:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=4020"},"modified":"2017-11-24T15:41:47","modified_gmt":"2017-11-24T21:41:47","slug":"so-much-for-doing-it-for-the-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2007\/09\/17\/so-much-for-doing-it-for-the-children\/","title":{"rendered":"So Much for Doing It for The Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, when it comes down to The Children or the uptight property owners in a &#8220;historic&#8221; area, we know <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/stltoday\/news\/stories.nsf\/stlouiscitycounty\/story\/385A548EBEAC3ED986257359000F05B0?OpenDocument\" target=\"_new\">the &#8220;grown ups&#8221; favor<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It might seem strange that a new playground would cause controversy, but this one is in the middle of Lafayette Park, a 170-year-old park that&#8217;s the heart of a well-organized and active historic neighborhood south of downtown.<\/p>\n<p>To some, the brightly colored plastic structure with a big red fish-shaped tunnel as its centerpiece doesn&#8217;t seem to fit in one of the oldest parks west of the Mississippi, surrounded on all sides by Victorian homes and a restored wrought-iron fence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It looks like a McDonald&#8217;s Playland,&#8221; said Larry Dodd, 51, who has lived in Lafayette Square for 25 years and is a member of the Lafayette Square Restoration Committee.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Children must not be exposed to bright, fun colors if it doesn&#8217;t fit in with the aesthetic sense of prigs.
