{"id":3990,"date":"2007-09-03T14:06:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-03T14:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=3990"},"modified":"2017-11-24T17:38:47","modified_gmt":"2017-11-24T23:38:47","slug":"the-first-mandatory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2007\/09\/03\/the-first-mandatory\/","title":{"rendered":"The First Mandatory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jonathan Edwards identifies the first government diktat he would issue with a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20070902\/ap_on_el_pr\/edwards_2\" target=\"_new\">government-run health plan<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It requires that everybody be covered. <b>It requires that everybody get preventive care<\/b>,&#8221; he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. &#8220;If you are going to be in the system, you can&#8217;t choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Prepare yourselves to submit yourself to an annual review by a government bureaucrat of some sort, whether it&#8217;s a government-paid &#8220;doctor&#8221; or some paper pusher at the bureau.<\/p>\n<p>Better yet, prepare yourself for the unstated list of government prohibitions that will come when &#8220;public health&#8221; is funded from the government leaders&#8217; pool of available pork money.  Probable prohibitions will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tobacco.<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol.<\/li>\n<li>Junk food.<\/li>\n<li>Dangerous hobbies.<\/li>\n<li>Places in the home where you can fall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trending toward the absurd?  What is absurd in contemporary American public policy?
