{"id":3939,"date":"2007-08-11T20:13:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-11T20:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=3939"},"modified":"2017-11-25T12:16:40","modified_gmt":"2017-11-25T18:16:40","slug":"caution-do-not-eat-in-dark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/11\/caution-do-not-eat-in-dark\/","title":{"rendered":"Caution: Do Not Eat In Dark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Watch for that warning label, coming soon thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/story\/News\/2007081043\/Man-says-hold-the-cheese-claims-McDonalds-didnt-sues-for-10-million\/\" target=\"_new\">this lawsuit<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A Morgantown man, his mother and his friend are suing McDonald&#8217;s for $10 million.<\/p>\n<p>The man says he bit into a hamburger and had a severe allergic reaction to the cheese melted on it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As a severely allergic man, he took every reasonable precaution to ensure his own safety:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Jeromy did his part to make it known he didn&#8217;t want cheese on the hamburgers because he is allergic, Houston said.<\/p>\n<p>He told a worker through the ordering speaker and then two workers face-to-face at the pay and pick-up windows that he couldn&#8217;t eat cheese, Houston said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By my count, he took at least five independent steps to make sure that thing had no cheese on it,&#8221; Houston said. &#8220;And it did and almost cost him his life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After getting the food, the three drove to Clarksburg and started to eat the food in a darkened room where they were going to watch a movie, Houston said.<\/p>\n<p>Jeromy took one bite and started having the reaction, Houston said. One of the three immediately called the McDonald&#8217;s to let restaurant employees know they had messed up the order, but had to cut the call short when Jeromy started having a bad reaction, Houston said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s right, he <i>told<\/i> people he was allergic but didn&#8217;t take the precaution of actually <i>checking<\/i> his food.  Afterwards, while he&#8217;s reacting, his friends <i>call the McDonalds<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Sounds like someone is digging for some free money here.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, here&#8217;s an encouraging sign from our health industry:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The lawsuit alleges Jeromy &#8220;was only moments from death&#8221; or serious injury by the time he reached the hospital.<\/p>\n<p><center>. . . .<\/center><br \/>\nMcDonald&#8217;s representatives offered to pay <b>half of Jeromy&#8217;s medical bills &#8212; which totaled about $700<\/b>.
