{"id":35512,"date":"2026-07-28T15:26:45","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T20:26:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=35512"},"modified":"2026-07-28T10:17:50","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T15:17:50","slug":"i-guess-thats-what-it-means-but","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2026\/07\/28\/i-guess-thats-what-it-means-but\/","title":{"rendered":"I Guess That&#8217;s What It Means, But&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local radio station The Bull, which has a playlist with which I&#8217;m becoming overly familiar because it turns out that it&#8217;s not that large and its reception is strong at Nogglestead, so it&#8217;s on the <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/18\/the-greatest-invention-that-ever-defeated-its-own-purpose\/\" target=\"_new\">Worktunes<\/a> when I cut the grass and it&#8217;s on both radios when I clean the house, plays Little Big Town&#8217;s &#8220;Boondocks&#8221; an awful lot.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/skAOb_EUE_M?si=DsqpvYimxrxQDYNk\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A fairly stock rural pride song.  To be honest, when it comes to boondocks songs, I&#8217;m more fond of Billy Joe Royal&#8217;s &#8220;Down in the Boondocks&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dWw9-iygCfM?si=O5jYp2Ar9ijdiG2c\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>So I always had the idea that the boondocks refers to the poor side of town.  Ah, gentle reader, although I live in the country, I can better empathize with being on the poor side of town because, basically, that&#8217;s where I was until I married up.  And always seeming to date or moon over upper class girls.  But boondocks actually refers to under populated rural areas (from the original <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boondocks\" target=\"_new\">Tagalog<\/a>.  So it&#8217;s not that at all, and all my best drives to <em>ackshually<\/em> modern country music is in vain.<\/p>\n<p>You know, thirty years ago, we still had oldies stations which played songs from the 1960s (along with the similarly themed &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xwbeSgEEe5M&#038;list=RDxwbeSgEEe5M&#038;start_radio=1\" target=\"_new\">The Poor Side of Town<\/a>&#8221; by Johnny Rivers).<\/p>\n<p>Now: No oldies stations.  I even went up and down the AM spectrum looking for them&#8211;AM had a number of talk stations and a BOB station with a mirror on the FM dial.  You know, I would put that on my presets and listen to it, but every station is trying to woo me with 80s and 90s music instead.  And: Although I have some 60s pop compilation records courtesy of my sainted mother, I don&#8217;t spin oldies on the turntable.  And I don&#8217;t ask Spotify for them.  They&#8217;re for listening to the radio time, not background music.  Ah, me.
