{"id":35469,"date":"2026-07-14T07:39:52","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T12:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=35469"},"modified":"2026-07-12T20:55:37","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T01:55:37","slug":"the-circular-references-of-what-im-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2026\/07\/14\/the-circular-references-of-what-im-reading\/","title":{"rendered":"The Circular References Of What I&#8217;m &#8220;Reading&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I might have mentioned, I&#8217;ve been reading some Alexander Pope recently (I read a 100-year-old textbook copy of <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2026\/06\/10\/book-report-the-rape-of-the-lock-and-other-poems-by-alexander-pope-1901\/\" target=\"_new\">The Rape of the Lock<\/em><\/a>, and I <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2026\/06\/16\/as-so-often-happens-at-nogglestead-2\/\" target=\"_new\">later found another 100-year-old edition<\/a>).  After all of that hyperlinked living, I found <em>another<\/em> 100-year-old textbook copy of Alexander Pope, and I&#8217;ve been working through it because it contains &#8220;An Essay on Criticism&#8221; in it, I decided to read it and the other poems in it to count it for another book in the annual total plus a brief <em>Alexander Pope schtick<\/em> on the blog, and&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>So I might <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2026\/07\/11\/good-book-hunting-july-10-2026-the-corner-coffee-shop-in-houston-missouri\/\" target=\"_new\">have mentioned<\/a>, I&#8217;ve been working on an audiocourse on ancient Egypt, which&#8230; mentions &#8220;The Rape of the Lock&#8221;.  I don&#8217;t think that the professor <em>quite<\/em> got the point of &#8220;The Rape of the Lock&#8221; as he mentioned it as part of a lecture on Egyptians tearing their locks out in mourning, which is not the point of &#8220;The Rape of the Lock&#8221; at all, but anyway&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>I picked up a fiction book to work through while reading the Pope (blocking because I&#8217;m lazy the other thick books on my chairside table which I should be reading, and <em>it<\/em> mentions Queen Nefertiti of Egypt.  Aw, yeah, the main wife of the &#8220;heretical&#8221; Pharaoh Akhenaten.  I know the difference between Nefertiti and Hatshepsut, brah.  And, briefly (set to expire in December of this year), I can tell the difference between the 18th and 19th dynasties of Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>But, ya know, <em>dang<\/em>.
