{"id":35448,"date":"2026-07-08T06:04:40","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T11:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=35448"},"modified":"2026-07-08T06:04:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T11:04:40","slug":"we-have-both-kinds-of-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2026\/07\/08\/we-have-both-kinds-of-music\/","title":{"rendered":"We Have Both Kinds of Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On a recent three hour tour of the Nogglestead lawn, the local country and western station provided a point\/counterpoint over the course of the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Starting with Eli Young Band, &#8220;Love Ain&#8217;t&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S0fMzeo34sA?si=ZMKVj3TD2rynCLxW\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With its chorus:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Love ain&#8217;t you on a sidewalk in your new dress all alone<br \/>\nLove ain&#8217;t you callin&#8217; me &#8217;cause he ain&#8217;t pickin&#8217; up his phone<br \/>\nThe way you&#8217;re talkin&#8217;, sounds like he&#8217;s somebody you should hate<br \/>\nI may not know what love is, girl<br \/>\nBut I know what love ain&#8217;t<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That is, the poet\/narrator admits not knowing what love is.<\/p>\n<p>Later, we had Clay Walker singing &#8220;What&#8217;s It To You&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WH_4gWP8QIg?si=UyRvPDSeluhbtYeX\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With its revelation:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Love is the rhythm of two hearts beating<br \/>\nPoundin&#8217; out a message steady and true<br \/>\nTalk to me baby, tell me what you&#8217;re feelin&#8217;<br \/>\nI know what love is, what&#8217;s it to you?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That is, the poet\/narrator knows what love is.<\/p>\n<p>Cue the Foreigner, I guess (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=r3Pr1_v7hsw&#038;list=RDr3Pr1_v7hsw&#038;start_radio=1\" target=\"_new\">&#8220;I Want To Know What Love Is&#8221;<\/a>), but&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Is it just me, or is there a whole new subgenre of bro country where the poet\/narrator exhorts a woman in a relationship to leave her partner (or maybe Old Dominion&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VrgCwAM06Yg&#038;list=RDVrgCwAM06Yg&#038;start_radio=1\" target=\"_new\">&#8220;Break Up With Him&#8221;<\/a> is just in heavy rotation on a &#8220;classic&#8221; country station.  I suppose it&#8217;s catnip to young ladies on the prowl who like to think their options are always open, but it kind of offends me.<\/p>\n<p>At any rate, stay tuned for another rousing edition of &#8220;What song came on the (sixteen year old? already?) <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/18\/the-greatest-invention-that-ever-defeated-its-own-purpose\/\" target=\"_new\">WorkTunes<\/a> while Brian J. was mowing the lawn?&#8221;  Because we&#8217;ve had rain in July, so I have at least one more mowing this summer&#8211;each time I mow in July, I think <em>Is this the mowing that will turn the lawn brown?<\/em>  So far, it has not, but it&#8217;s going to get dry here sometime soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On a recent three hour tour of the Nogglestead lawn, the local country and western station provided a point\/counterpoint over the course of the afternoon.
