{"id":34984,"date":"2026-03-09T08:23:32","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T13:23:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=34984"},"modified":"2026-03-08T14:29:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T19:29:38","slug":"how-to-spot-a-who","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2026\/03\/09\/how-to-spot-a-who\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Spot A &#8220;Who?&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am probably slow to discover this, but newspaper stories about death announcements, especially on the front\/home page, come in to flavors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Neil Sedaka dies&#8221; (and for or five news items about it), and &#8220;Iconic Folk Singer and Woodstock Legend dead at 84&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/howtotellawho.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/03\/08\/celebrity-news\/woodstock-legend-country-joe-mcdonald-dead-at-84\/\" target=\"_new\">Country Joe MacDonald<\/a> who passed away.  Have I heard his name?  Probably.  Would I consider him some sort of legend or icon?  Eh&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all about the click-through rates, no doubt.  When the name is known, people will click to learn more.  When the name is <em>kinda known, maybe<\/em>, the key is to hype up the person&#8217;s fame to get us to click through to find out more.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder if there&#8217;s a scoring algorithm for the dividing line, or if it&#8217;s still a gut feeling by an editor somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>But, hey, <em>it worked on me<\/em>.
