I looked at the side of the alarm, and it is indeed hinged at the bottom.  <\/p>\n<p>The arrows indicate where you&#8217;re supposed to pull, not which direction you&#8217;re supposed to pull.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not entirely sure on the design.  I&#8217;d hate for someone to hesitate and cogitate on this in an emergency, where that person might be overcome by smoke whilst trying to tug up.<\/p>\n<p>But maybe I&#8217;m the only one who worries about those possibilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I noticed the fire alarms at church have arrows pointing up.
