{"id":30277,"date":"2022-08-30T17:53:20","date_gmt":"2022-08-30T22:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=30277"},"modified":"2022-08-30T08:02:27","modified_gmt":"2022-08-30T13:02:27","slug":"science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2022\/08\/30\/science\/","title":{"rendered":"SCIENCE!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Facebook suggested this post from an outfit called &#8220;American Council on Science and Health&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/americancouncilonscienceandhealth.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a quote from a film I enjoyed, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/17\/on-secondhand-lions-2003\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Secondhand Lions<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The quote starts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in most.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I mean, much of it is about honor, courage, Wuv, True Wuv, and stuff.<\/p>\n<p>But one cannot help wonder how much a non-profit science group that lobbies politicians would prefer we believe things are true even if they&#8217;re not.  Especially when we&#8217;re told them by people with credentials after their name in their email signatures (originally, I was going to say &#8220;stationery,&#8221; but, c&#8217;mon, man, the only stationery with my name on it I have is notepads sent to me as parts of fundraising pitches from organizations much like this).<\/p>\n<p>I support a lot of things, but very few of them have &#8220;American&#8221; in the name.
