Respectfully Disagrees With Severian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a post called simply <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rottenchestnuts.com\/dignity\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Dignity<\/a>, Severian says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Karen Carpenter and Linda Ronstadt were always singers, but they were primarily folkies, and while Linda Ronstadt was really something back in her Stone Poneys days \u2014 yum! \u2014 her biggest hit with them (\u201cDifferent Drum\u201d) made it clear that she was not the one for you. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One might infer that Linda Ronstadt was <em>not<\/em> really something after her Stone Poney days (1966-1968).  I beg to differ.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The cover for her 1976 album <em>Hasten Down the Wind<\/em> triggered puberty in me.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/lindaronstadthastendownthewind.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Given that I did not get the record until the twenty-first century, it was my second puberty that has turned me into the post-human monster from a Larry Niven novel that I am today.<\/p>\n<p>A smattering of her album covers from the seventies to the early part of the 21st century show a pretty woman who aged very gracefully indeed.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/lindaronstadtcanciones.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/lindaronstadtmascanciones.jpg\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/lindaronstadtlivingintheusa.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/lindaronstadthummintomyself.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>I have a lot of Linda Ronstadt records, including some from the folk era of the 1970s (of course, I don&#8217;t like folk music, but that has not stopped me from acquiring Olivia Newton-John or Lynda Carter records, either) and the early pop era (<em>Living in the USA<\/em> complete with the short cropped curls look that did not work for anyone).<\/p>\n<p>My favorites, of course, were the three she did with Nelson Riddle:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/lindaronstadtwhatsnew.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/lindaronstadtlushlife.jpg\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/lindaronstadtforsentimentalreasons.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re jazz standards like the title track &#8220;What&#8217;s New?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/A5Rl8BSEdsE\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, gentle reader, that&#8217;s fifteen years post-Poneys.<\/p>\n<p>What, album covers aren&#8217;t enough for you?
