{"id":25943,"date":"2020-04-04T08:11:49","date_gmt":"2020-04-04T13:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=25943"},"modified":"2020-04-03T11:47:25","modified_gmt":"2020-04-03T16:47:25","slug":"homeschooling-day-%e5%8d%8c-%e5%8d%8c-iiii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2020\/04\/04\/homeschooling-day-%e5%8d%8c-%e5%8d%8c-iiii\/","title":{"rendered":"Homeschooling, Day \u534c \u534c IIII"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So on Thursday night, we did not get to the poetry until after 8pm, so I had to pick a short one for the evening.<\/p>\n<p>I selected &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trees_(poem)\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trees<\/a>&#8221; by Joyce (a boy) Kilmer (text <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poetrymagazine\/poems\/12744\/trees\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nI think that I shall never see<br \/>\nA poem lovely as a tree.<\/p>\n<p>A tree whose hungry mouth is prest<br \/>\nAgainst the earth\u2019s sweet flowing breast;<\/p>\n<p>A tree that looks at God all day,<br \/>\nAnd lifts her leafy arms to pray;<\/p>\n<p>A tree that may in Summer wear<br \/>\nA nest of robins in her hair;<\/p>\n<p>Upon whose bosom snow has lain;<br \/>\nWho intimately lives with rain.<\/p>\n<p>Poems are made by fools like me,<br \/>\nBut only God can make a tree.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Quick, what movie quotes that poem?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I am sure there are many, but the poem came to mind because I saw a movie poster for <em>Superman II<\/em> somewhere in my blog travels this week.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ys3FrZBSasI\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The first line appears in <em>Superman II<\/em>, and the last line appears in <em>Groundhog Day<\/em>.  The line preceding this clip has Rita saying she&#8217;s not tired, and Phil says, &#8220;The last thing you heard was &#8216;only God can make a tree.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WyJDkK1d_2g\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>To be honest, I am not sure I read the poem before, and so this was the first time I learned what poem the line in <em>Groundhog Day<\/em> was from.  And in my researching this post, I learned more about <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joyce_Kilmer\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joyce Kilmer<\/a> who was a known poet in his time, but he died in World War I at the age of 31.
