{"id":2583,"date":"2005-08-08T18:39:00","date_gmt":"2005-08-08T18:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=2583"},"modified":"2017-05-11T05:35:29","modified_gmt":"2017-05-11T10:35:29","slug":"false-dichotomy-of-thinkers-vs-linkers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2005\/08\/08\/false-dichotomy-of-thinkers-vs-linkers\/","title":{"rendered":"False Dichotomy of Thinkers vs. Linkers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jay Tea at Wizbang! <a href=\"http:\/\/wizbangblog.com\/archives\/006681.php\" target=\"_new\">reminds us<\/a> about Stephen Den Beste&#8217;s categorization of bloggers as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thinkers,  who write essays and whatnot.\n<li>Linkers, who post links and say, &#8220;Heh.&#8221; or &#8220;Indeed.&#8221;\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, this simple dichotomy overlooks the third type of blogger: the <b>lister<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>The lister type of blogger:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Embraces the numbered or bulleted list as a means of communication.\n<li>Often dashes off lists of related items important to the blogger.\n<li>Relates favorites in movie or music, often specializing in:\n<ul>\n<li>One\n<li>The other\n<li>Both<\/ul>\n<li>Participates in and spread &#8220;memes&#8221; which contain lists of questions or simple lists for other bloggers to fill out.<\/ul>\n<p>The beauties of the list blog include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Not needing to assemble complete paragraphs; all you need is a topic sentence or a topic fragment.\n<li>Lists easily translatable into PowerPoint presentations, with neat transition effects.\n<li>Take up lots of vertical space on the blog, ensuring that the content column is longer than the blogroll.\n<li>Could make blogger as famous, wealthy, and respected as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.topfive.com\" target=\"_new\">Chris White<\/a>.\n<\/ul>\n<p>These blogs show signs of listery from time to time:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asmallvictory.net\" target=\"_new\">A Small Victory<\/a>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.proteinwisdom.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Protein Wisdom<\/a>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/overtaken.blogmosis.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Overtaken by Events<\/a>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/rocketjones.mu.nu\/\" target=\"_new\">Rocket Jones<\/a>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imao.us\" target=\"_new\">IMAO<\/a>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wizbangblog.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Wizbang!<\/a>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\" target=\"_new\">Musings from Brian J.
