{"id":25565,"date":"2020-01-19T10:34:57","date_gmt":"2020-01-19T16:34:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=25565"},"modified":"2020-01-17T20:47:22","modified_gmt":"2020-01-18T02:47:22","slug":"the-shadows-of-nogglestead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2020\/01\/19\/the-shadows-of-nogglestead\/","title":{"rendered":"The Shadows of Nogglestead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So my oldest son played <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Destiny_2\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Destiny 2: Shadowkeep<\/em><\/a> the other night and didn&#8217;t like it because it was too hard&#8211;which means different from the first person shooters he&#8217;s accustomed to.<\/p>\n<p>As my beautiful wife and I ate dinner, I mentioned to her what he said, and then I thought of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shadow_Chasers\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shadow Chasers<\/a><\/em>, a short-lived television series from the eighties that could have been a comedic blueprint for the more successful <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_X-Files\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The X-Files<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7osl1XGzZVU\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I hadn&#8217;t thought of this show in years.  But the <em>Shadowkeep<\/em> brought it to mind.<\/p>\n<p>Almost as a non sequitur, my wife said, &#8220;In 2052, we&#8217;ll be eighty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It would almost be a non sequitur, and it might have seemed so to her, but I corrected her.  &#8220;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shadowrun#Publication_history\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shadowrun<\/em><\/a> is set in 2050.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although she was not a big roleplaying gamer back in the day&#8211;or a television watcher who would have seen one of the eight episodes of <em>Shadow Chasers<\/em> that aired&#8211;our martial arts school is in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loopnet.com\/Listing\/14640815\/4560-S-Campbell-Springfield-MO\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Shadowood Plaza<\/em><\/a>, and I have told her at least once that the name of the plaza reminds me of Shadowrun.
