{"id":25121,"date":"2019-10-04T12:52:27","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T17:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=25121"},"modified":"2019-09-30T16:53:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T21:53:00","slug":"book-report-random-realities-by-elton-gahr-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2019\/10\/04\/book-report-random-realities-by-elton-gahr-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Book Report: <i>Random Realities<\/i> by Elton Gahr (2017)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/randomrealities.jpg\" width=\"200\" alt=\"Book cover\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"4\">As I mentioned when I read Gahr and Seth Wolfhorndl&#8217;s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2019\/09\/21\/book-report-rook-city-by-seth-wolfshorndl-and-elton-gahr-2016\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rook City<\/a><\/em> comic, I hoped I would like Gahr&#8217;s fiction as well&#8211;as I bought a couple of his fiction collections at <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2019\/08\/18\/good-book-hunting-saturday-august-17-2019-librarycon-2019\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LibraryCon<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p>Well, I liked the book.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a collection of science fiction short stories.  Some of them are very short indeed&#8211;a couple of pages, which means they&#8217;re coming it at under 1000 words.  So flash fiction.  The plots are imaginative, but the execution is a little unsophisticated at times.  The prose lacks any flourish, even the flourish of austerity.  But, you know what?  Who cares?  Did I mention the plots are imaginative?  And the stories are not woke parables, which I understand is a problem in some modern sci fi.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;ll pick up his other collection, <em>Random Fantasies<\/em> by and by.  I see I actually bought a couple of other books from him, so I&#8217;ll probably jump into them before long as well.
