Drew Strength From The Spice Girls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night&#8217;s triathlon class was brutal: We started with some hill running and then cooled off in the pool with some timed intervals.  Let&#8217;s be honest: I have not improved in swimming <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/16\/the-meanest-swim-class-ever\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in two years<\/a>, and last night the swim about killed me.  During drills, I focused on too many things and lost my breathing rhythm, which meant I breathed and swallowed a lot of air and a lot of water, both going to the wrong chambers in my torso.<\/p>\n<p>But then, The Spice Girls&#8217; &#8220;Wannabe&#8221; came on the music piped into the pool.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gJLIiF15wjQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Another fellow in the remedial swim lane has a strategy of walking most of the laps, and he was finishing a length of the pool not far behind me as I did whatever it is I do that is almost as fast as walking in water.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not going to drown and have the Spice Girls be the last words I hear,&#8221; I announced to him.<\/p>\n<p><em>And I did not drown.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So consider me inspired by the Spice Girls.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back on this blog, I see the other mention of the Spice Girls comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2005\/05\/30\/the-makings-of-a-trivia-champion\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2005<\/a>, where I boasted I could name them all even though I&#8217;d only listened to a complete Spice Girls song once.  I think fourteen years later, I could go four out of five, maybe.  Also, back in, what, 1997, I wrote about them in <a href=\"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/CE\/vol1\/cynex106.htm\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Cynic Express&#8217;d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, that might count as an obsession.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night&#8217;s triathlon class was brutal: We started with some hill running and then cooled off in the pool with some timed intervals.
