{"id":23568,"date":"2018-09-04T08:42:07","date_gmt":"2018-09-04T13:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=23568"},"modified":"2018-09-04T08:42:07","modified_gmt":"2018-09-04T13:42:07","slug":"frank-versus-perry-a-musical-throwdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2018\/09\/04\/frank-versus-perry-a-musical-throwdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Frank Versus Perry: A Musical Throwdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So I listened to Perry Como&#8217;s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000MC54LG\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=B000MC54LG&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=stlbrianj-20&#038;linkId=66736d23556094ae998ca51417450b40\" target=\"_new\">By Request<\/em><\/a>, and it has the song &#8220;Once Upon A Time&#8221; as the lead song on side 2.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n8Q7R11f4Bg\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And I thought, <em>You know who else does this song?<\/em>  Frank Sinatra.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hqJOE0SyWnE\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You know, I think Frank Sinatra is best when he does songs of reminiscence and regret; this song appears on my favorite Sinatra album, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B012UW4SF8\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=B012UW4SF8&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=stlbrianj-20&#038;linkId=ea7c089695829ea60271780e02069a6b\" target=\"_new\">September of My Years<\/em><\/a>, a platter full of reminiscence and regret.<\/p>\n<p>You know, Sinatra&#8217;s got that that pathos going on, but on balance, the richness of Como&#8217;s voice outweighs it in this instance, at least as far as I&#8217;m concerned.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve no evidence that Eydie ever did this song, so I must give the MfBJN Musical Throwdown award to Perry Como on this one.<\/p>\n<p>I must be getting so old now that I&#8217;m passing out of Sinatra appreciation into Como appreciation or something.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So I listened to Perry Como&#8217;s By Request, and it has the song &#8220;Once Upon A Time&#8221; as the lead song on side 2.
