{"id":2106,"date":"2005-03-29T20:26:00","date_gmt":"2005-03-29T20:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=2106"},"modified":"2018-07-03T12:40:19","modified_gmt":"2018-07-03T17:40:19","slug":"2106","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2005\/03\/29\/2106\/","title":{"rendered":"Biased Source Issues Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently, the IRS thinks <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2005\/03\/29\/pf\/taxes\/tax_gap\/index.htm?cnn=yes\" target=\"_new\">people aren&#8217;t paying their fair share<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Most Americans pay their federal taxes by their due dates, but there&#8217;s still a yawning gap between what taxpayers owe and what they pay, according to the IRS.<\/p>\n<p>That gap &#8212; known as the net tax gap &#8212; is between $257 billion and $298 billion, according to preliminary findings from a three-year study on taxpayer compliance released Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even after IRS enforcement efforts and late payments, the government is being shortchanged by over a quarter-trillion dollars by those who pay less than their fair share,&#8221; said IRS commissioner Mark W. Everson in a statement. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The IRS discovers the more people it audits, the more it can shake out of them.  But only to get <strike>its<\/strike> their fair shares.<\/p>\n<p>I am uncomfortable when the head of the IRS is determining what each person&#8217;s fair share of tax burden is.
