Poems, Everybody!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So I have released my infrequently threatened\/promised collection of poems.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/chmfront.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Entitled <em>Coffee House Memories<\/em>, it contains just short of 100 poems that I wrote mostly in my college and immediately post-college life.  I spent a lot of evenings at coffee houses and their attendant open mic nights.  <\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/5b5CuIAwksAonDYlCR\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" frameBorder=\"0\" class=\"giphy-embed\" allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/5b5CuIAwksAonDYlCR\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Man, I wrote a lot of sonnets, and some of them are pretty good, I still think.  But some of them are a little, erm, <em>saucy?<\/em>  Not bawdy, but they&#8217;re clearly about making love.  So this, like <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0051OZ5SC\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=B0051OZ5SC&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=stlbrianj-20\" target=\"_new\">John Donnelly&#8217;s Gold<\/a><\/em>, is not something my children can take to school for show and tell.  It&#8217;s funny; I used to perform said poems in coffee houses in front of dozens of people, but it&#8217;s been a while.  I&#8217;m pretty sure I&#8217;d feel like a creepy old man reading one of them out loud now.  And\/or I&#8217;d blush furiously.  But I&#8217;m convinced they&#8217;re good poems, so they&#8217;re in the collection.<\/p>\n<p>Also in this volume:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/12\/it-would-have-been-less-romantic-that-way\/\" target=\"_new\">&#8220;Exploring, We Discovered Bee Tree Park&#8230;.&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The series of sonnets called <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2007\/07\/09\/a-sonnet-series-wherein-brian-puts-up\/\" target=\"_new\">&#8220;A Story&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2007\/03\/28\/fifth-floor-eyes\/\" target=\"_new\">&#8220;Fifth Floor Eyes&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2004\/11\/24\/1734\/\" target=\"_new\">&#8220;Okauchee Light&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not included: <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/23\/have-a-haiku\/\" target=\"_new\">&#8220;Springfield Panera Bread BDU&#8221;<\/a>, although I did include a number of other haiku.  And pantoum or two.  And a couple villanelles, I thing.  I did write a couple bits of free verse, but I always favored more structured forms, like the sonnet.<\/p>\n<p>The book includes two chapbooks I released in the middle 1990s, <em>Unrequited<\/em> and <em>Deep Blue Shadows<\/em>.  The latter is named for a poem inspired a bit by a song by the band Lillian Axe.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LUxIFhjB6GY\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It might be the only poem inspired by anything by Lillian Axe.<\/p>\n<p>In my defense, the book also features three poems inspired by &#8220;One Day I Wrote Her Name Upon the Strand&#8221; by Edmund Spenser.
