{"id":1859,"date":"2005-01-17T10:34:00","date_gmt":"2005-01-17T10:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=1859"},"modified":"2018-07-28T10:24:57","modified_gmt":"2018-07-28T15:24:57","slug":"1859","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2005\/01\/17\/1859\/","title":{"rendered":"Book Report: <i>Stalking the Angel<\/i> by Robert Crais (1989)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0553286447\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0553286447&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=stlbrianj-20&#038;linkId=6634d8a4fd39565c7fdb6ee791e1c410\" target=\"_new\">the second Elvis Cole book<\/a>, my second in 36 hours, so that bespeaks much of how enjoyable these particular novels are proving.<\/p>\n<p>This one finds Elvis Cole looking for a a stolen Japanese manuscript, protecting a wealthy businessman&#8217;s family, looking for a kidnapped girl who might be complicit in her disappearance, and battling Japanese organized crime.  Elvis Cole battles more crime in a day than some fictional private eyes see all book.<\/p>\n<p>The plot is convoluted, but not confusing; as the first person narrator has to reframe events in his own mind, he takes the readers along, so it&#8217;s not confusing or overly elaborate.  Heck, I figured it out sixty pages in with a guess as to how I, as a writer, would play it.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m eager to continue with the series as it, like John D. MacDonald&#8217;s work and some of the sixties paperbacks I&#8217;ve taken to in the last six months, entertains me and inspires me to write.
