{"id":15237,"date":"2016-03-15T17:36:38","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T22:36:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=15237"},"modified":"2019-03-21T15:36:05","modified_gmt":"2019-03-21T20:36:05","slug":"when-max-allan-collins-comes-around","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/15\/when-max-allan-collins-comes-around\/","title":{"rendered":"When Max Allan Collins Comes Around"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I noticed a couple days back in my referrer logs that someone from Muscatine, Iowa reading the book report for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/08\/book-report-dead-street-by-mickey-spillane-and-max-allan-collins-2007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dead Street<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Muscatine, Iowa, as I learned when I was researching the book report, is the current home of Max Allan Collins, the author of <em>Dead Street<\/em>.  So I was pretty sure it was the man himself.<\/p>\n<p>Given that he linked the report <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maxallancollins.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/15\/better-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on his blog today<\/a>, I&#8217;d say I was correct.<\/p>\n<p>Collins joins Diane Duane, author of the Star Trek novel <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2007\/11\/19\/book-report-my-enemy-my-ally-by-diane-duane-1984\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>My Enemy, My Ally<\/a><\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/joecliffordfaust.com\/2004\/09\/29\/17-years-later\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Clifford Faust<\/a>, author of <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2004\/09\/23\/1496\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>A Death of Honor<\/em><\/a> as people whom I can honestly include in the plural &#8220;you, gentle reader&#8221; in my continuing posts.  Although in most cases it&#8217;s an honorary title.  Given my blog traffic these days, <em>plural<\/em> is an honorary title when referring to my readers.<\/p>\n<p>Also, it&#8217;s why although I&#8217;m not at Nick Hornby levels in positivity (as his book <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/08\/book-report-ten-years-in-the-tub-by-nick-hornby-2013\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Ten Years in the Tub<\/em><\/a> indicates, his magazine editors prefer he only have nice things to say about books he reviews), I try to keep snark to the minimum: because the authors are people, too.  Besides, all of these people have sold far more books than I have.<\/p>\n<p>Also also (which is my blog equivalent of P.P.S., which nobody uses any more), this is why I&#8217;m thinking about ending my book reports with boilerplate &#8220;It&#8217;s not as good as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0983212309\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0983212309&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=stlbrianj-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MY NOVEL<\/a>!&#8221;  Just to see if I can get any self-Googling real author to spend a buck on it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I noticed a couple days back in my referrer logs that someone from Muscatine, Iowa reading the book report for Dead Street.
