{"id":14622,"date":"2015-07-07T05:50:03","date_gmt":"2015-07-07T10:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/?p=14622"},"modified":"2015-07-07T05:50:03","modified_gmt":"2015-07-07T10:50:03","slug":"new-thrift-store-record-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/07\/new-thrift-store-record-finds\/","title":{"rendered":"New Thrift Store Record Finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Perhaps I should start a new series called <strong>Good Record Hunting<\/strong> to account for my trips to thrift stores looking for LPs (and, in my defense, a cheap television to hook up old computers).<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, I visited the DAV Thrift Store and briefly browsed its LPs, but they were poorly arranged for browsing and cost $2.48 each.  I also visited the Salvation Army thrift store next door.  There were fewer, they were easier to browse, and they only cost $1 each, so I got:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc1.jpg\" width=\"125\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc2.jpg\" width=\"125\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc3.jpg\" width=\"125\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc4.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc4.jpg\" width=\"125\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc5.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc5.jpg\" width=\"125\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc6.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/bsgfx\/disc6.jpg\" width=\"125\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This group includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Opera Society&#8217;s small disc version of Rigoletto&#8217;s <em>Verdi<\/em>.  Or Verdi&#8217;s <em>Rigoletto<\/em>.  Sometimes, with these modern things, it&#8217;s hard to tell which is the band name and which is the song.<\/li>\n<li>Keely Smith, <em>Be My Love<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Perry Como, <em>In Italy<\/em>.  To be honest, I didn&#8217;t look close to see if he sings any Verdi.<\/li>\n<li>Dean Martin, <em>Everybody Loves Somebody (The Hit Version)<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Perry Como, <em>Just For You<\/em>, a Sylvania-branded record.<\/li>\n<li>The Czechoslovakian Philharmonic Orchestra doing some Mahler.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s funny when you go to thrift stores and book sales, you seem to find more LPs than cassettes.  I don&#8217;t know if this is only a perception thing because they&#8217;re bigger than tapes, but it&#8217;s probably because the LP sale prominence lasted for decades and audio cassettes only sold for, what, twenty years, mostly in parallel with LPs and then CDs.  Also, they&#8217;re small and easy to throw out and LPs are big enough to think they&#8217;re worth something.<\/p>\n<p>Also, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ll start a whole new category of posts, as I don&#8217;t imagine I&#8217;ll do this <em>that<\/em> often.  Although it might prove to be more often than I go to book sales these days.<\/p>\n<p>Also, please note I use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Discogs<\/a> for my record research (and I poach images of the LPs from them).  It&#8217;s a cool site.
