It&#8217;s easy for me to come up with literary male cat names; all of history and literature is rife with them.  But female cat names are a different story.  I don&#8217;t know many female literary names with the same zing of male protagonists.  I mean, who wants a cat named <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/V.I._Warshawski\" target=\"_blank\">Warshawski<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>So in a moment of inspiration, I turned to Norse and Celtic mythology.  <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brigit\" target=\"_blank\">Brigit<\/a><\/em>, I offer (leading to the inevitable discussion of how you pronounce Brigit).  <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boudica\" target=\"_blank\">Boadicea<\/a><\/em>, I say, undoubtedly pronouncing it wrong without any ensuing discussion.  <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sif_(Marvel_Comics)\" target=\"_blank\">Lady Sif<\/a><\/em>, I offer.<\/p>\n<p>However: I characterize her as the Marvel Comics rendition, not the actual <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sif\" target=\"_blank\">Norse rendition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Which betrays the fact that I have not read a single edda in my life.  Saga, either.<\/p>\n<p>I really do try to punch above my intellectual weight, though, and I&#8217;ve got a pretty good fa\u00e7ade going.  Do you see the <em>\u00e7<\/em> there?  BECAUSE OUTWARD DEMONSTRATION OF LITERARY HIPSTERISM!<\/p>\n<p>Strangely, though, although I&#8217;ve thought of it before, I did not bring the name <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Morgan_le_Fay\" target=\"_blank\">Morgaine<\/a><\/em> into the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Not because of the Mallory.  Because of the <a href=\"https:\/\/brianjnoggle.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/11\/book-report-paladins-by-joel-rosenberg-2004\/\" target=\"_blank\">literary Rosenbergism<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So my wife and I are discussing female cat names the other night.
